[VAC] What Do I need to pull it?

Jamie: Amen on the  "not-too much" line.  When I started 'Stream shopping 3 years ago I had a Nissan Pathfinder rated at  under 5000# towing capacity.  I was sure this was plenty to get a light vintage AS around.  Fortunately I totalled that rather poorly designed box with neither my (human) or (aluminum) baby on board.  I now have a 2001 Durango 5.9L w/ tow package & a Reese Dual Cam hitch pulling a 27' 1969 Overlander.  The Dodge does struggle on the steeps a bit, some knocking on the regular gas.  It is the minimum vehicle I'd use to tow a Safari.  I'm not a big Dodge fan & will nitpick it ad nauseum if asked, but it is a respectable SUV and tow vehicle.  Great cupholders, Neanderthal climate control. yada, yada. You need to either ditch the Vitara, or, better yet, invest in a used F250 or Dodge diesel pickup. No one ever complained about buying too much truck to tow their Airstream.  You might also look into the screaming deals on 3/4 ton custom vans, tailgaters, weekend campers, etc.  With gas going up, people unload good towing vans cheap.  Plus you get captain's chairs, TVs, sinks & levelors you don't get on trucks.  Don't skimp on the hitch ( Hensley rocks) and have a mechanic go through the shocks, struts, brakes.  Happy shopping & welcome to the club.
