[VAC] news pictures

I added some new pictures to my web site at
http://home.att.net/~dhardman/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.html-.html
that show the results of my latest projects. I was able to remove the
ghost outline of previous A/S numbers by polishing by hand with a product
called Wenol, that I bought at Oasis A/S in Tucson. Now after a lot of hard
work, I don't know if I want to put my new numbers back on the trailer.

I also removed the International emblems on both sides and repainted them in
their red, white and blue. I sheared off the pins holding them with a sharp
putty knife. I was able to mask off the chrome letters and borders using a
self stick brown paper painter tape and then trim with a razor knife. Then I
spray painted each section separately. They look good. I then had to
re-attach them to the trailer using rivets and then painting the heads. I
also removed the AIRSTREAM letters on the from and back and I am going to
clean, and repaint them as well. I removed them with the putty knife and
hammer as well and will re-attach with small rivets.

I also replaced the Tambour door under the sink and the TV stand with 1/2
oak plywood and trim. I built a new cabinet and drawer in the space where
the old oven was after I replaced it with the new gas cook top. I stained
the fronts of the cabinets to match the existing Formica wood the best I
could then trimmed in black. My plans are to in time cover the Formica tops
and side panels with the thin real oak veneer and stain to match the new
doors.

This old Airstream has come a long way from the condition it was in just a
little over a year ago. Although there are still things to do, for now my
wife and I have a few trips planned between now and the end of the year and
are looking forward to enjoying our Airstream on the road.
