[VAC] Re: GFI Trips when rains--Help!

I've got my rig's power cord plugged into an RV extension cord, plugged into
an external outlet on the house which is routed through a GFI. Everything
works fine until it rains. Then the GFI trips. First time, I solved this
problem by taking a hair drier to the connection between the trailer cord
and the RV extension cord. Water had gotten in the female end of the
extension cord, causing the problem. Or so it seemed.

I then attempted to protect the cord connection from dampness. Next time it
rained, tripped the GFI again. This time, the hair dryer routine made no
difference. Checked the male-extension-cord-to-house-receptical point, but
that is sheltered and was completely dry. Had to run everything on propane
and 12v for a day until everything dried out. Now it works fine again.

Where I had the trailer parked before, there was no GFI in the trailer power
circuit, so for all I know the trailer would have tripped one in it's old
location, where I was plugging the trailer cord directly into a
weatherproof, campground-style power box on a post.

Question:
1) Is this a common problem with using an extension cord? Solutions?
2) Could this be a trailer ground problem? If so, what's the best way to
ground the trailer? It'll be in one spot for months.
3) Any other causes anyone can think of? Quick before it rains again?

Thanks!
