If an AC hasn't been used in a while the freon can leak out around compressor
bearings, etc.  The freon is/contains (I'm not sure which) lubricant.  You may
have to find an air conditioning service guy who's been around for a while and
still has some of the old stuff.  It's getting hard to find, and not all the new
stuff is usable in older units.
