Tim,

The two wires are actually plastic fibers running to the signal lamps on the
rear of the trailer.  They should be positioned where the turn signal/brake
lamps will shine into the end, and the fiber "pipes" the light to amber lenses
that can be seen in the rear view mirror.  The plastic cover is supposed to
shade the lenses so they can be seen in daylight, but usually that is the first
part to break off.  I'm trying to get one made out of aluminum sheet for mine.
