As I recalled the recent high winds and the extreme ice storms around
Des Moines in the past few years, I'd be inclined to consider hail a
lesser hazard than trees or tree limbs. A 6" walnut limb across an
airstream might bend the shell nearly to the floor. Such limbs and trees
do that to cars and a bit bigger trees split houses. Remember that wet
snow one October 30? 6" of wet snow and the Des Moines area was hauling
trees to the landfill for more than 6 months. It burned for a lot longer
than that.

I think I prefer the wide open spaces AWAY from trees, or in a sturdy
building. Maybe I'll do the building bit once I empty the barn of house
building materials.
