Hi kit,

By all means, get rid of those split rim tires.  As you found out, no one
wants to
service them.  They are dangerous.  If the rim is not put back correctly, it
flies off
of the wheel at great speed when the tire is inflated, many times taking off
the head of
the tire installer.  Truck shops use large iron cages to place the wheel in
when inflating
 split rim truck tires.

In the case of whitewalls, I have never heard of this.  I would find another
place to
take them to be changed.
