[VAC] Axle?'s

Ok all, I have gone and done it now. I was on the list a while last
year when I accepted the gift of 1961 Bambi. I decided to do a proper
restoration as the floor was badly rotted, last weekend I finally got
the courage up and pulled the body, then pulled the floor. what a
mess. The frame has some major rust (all removed now thanks to the
angle grinder) and some broken welds.

In removing the floor channel and belly pan I wound up destroying both.
I have saved all the mangled pieces to help with patterns for new.

My question now is two fold, first any suggestions for the best place to
get a new or rebuilt axle as the old "duo-torq" (I think) has no torque
left it is all sagged out, and then when I get this axle should I weld
it back on as the current one is or as a couple airstream dealers have
told me do I need to manufacture a axle mounting bracket to weld to the
frame that will then allow the axle to bolt on?

My thought is to just weld on the new axle (after all it lasted for 40
years). If there is an advantage to some type of axle plate and someone
can provide a drawing sufficient to allow a welder to fab one up I will
consider going that way.

Well I have gone on long enough. thanks in advance for the help.
