EEmer59728@aol.com mentioned having a hanging lamp over the table. We did the same thing too. Our
thousand dollar lamp and globe came from the same store where his wife bought theirs. 

To hang it, I screwed a hook into the ceiling directly above the table, but not so far into the room
that I would bump it with my head each time I sat down or got up from the table. Then, I screwed in
another hook near the wall to accomodate the "hanging chain" containing the electric cord, which I
then routed inside and along the valance to a wall outlet with a dimmer switch. The electric cord is
secure, it is unobtrusive to the eye and the lamp can be bright or dim, depending on who wants what.
Almost any 120 volt dual outlet box can be disassembled so a dimmer can be installed in place of one
outlet. An ordinary on/off switch could be installed as easily - but who wants ordinary? Airstreams
are made for adventure, excitement and a little hugging now and then.

Make sure the lamp decoration complements the interior. The top part of our lamp that holds the
globe is made of gold pot metal. After years of swinging, the weight of the globe began rubbing the
pot metal thin. When I noticed that, I took a gold metal coat hangar, routed it around the neck of
the globe where the three set screws hold the pot metal against the globe and attached the hangar
wire to the ceiling hook. At a cursory glance, the globe looks like it was made that way. Only
someone with an eye for details of how mechanical advantage is created would even recognize the coat
hangar.

This is more than you asked for, but the more options you know about, the more likely you'll be
satisfied your handiwork, says me.

PS - We also use a banker's lamp (green lampshade) on the table when we don't want the entire room
illuminated, i.e. when we're out visiting during the evening and want a light on inside when we
return or when one of us goes to bed early and the other wants to stay up and work at the computer.

SPS - We also use a 7.5 watt bulb screwed into an adapter that plugs into a wall outlet - for a
night light. And then, there are those of us who put this type of night light inside cupboards where
the factory put a stray outlet box. On cloudy days, I can find things in those cupboards.
