[VAC] 5th wheel

Got out my cutoff saw and was wondering where to cut
my '55 FC in order to make it a 5th wheel. I guess the
front bottom to within a foot of the door.  I may have
to raise the trailer so the 5th wheel tongue can slide
into the truck bed.  It may be easier to take the
wheels and axle off and buy a 5th wheel flatbed and
put the trailer on the trailer.

Has anyone made a 5th wheel out of an Airstream?  Can
the axle be removed?
