Good point about tapping aluminum.  There are a number of modern high tech
(politically and EPA correct) cutting fluids . However, the old standby
which works very well is plain old kerosene (diesel fuel would work too).

Dr. J's suggestion of replacing the 8-32 with a 10-32 is a viable option.
Be sure to use a sharp tap and cutting fluid to get a clean sharp thread to
avoid "tearing" the new threads.  No point in cutting "partially stripped
threads".
