[VAC] Re: Tow Vehicle Connector Wiring

Bob,
You just disregarded your own advice by adding a connector.

My experience is that CONNECTIONS don't cause nearly as many problems as
CONNECTORS (plugs).

If the cable on the trailer isn't right up to snuff (likely on an older
unit) it should be replaced anyway. Many/most A/S trailers seem to have
a junction area above a cover in the belly near the step. Wire up a new
connector to the 'proper' colors in a new cable (the 'right' stuff is
readily available), and pull it back to the junction area and make the
connections.

Note: if the existing cable runs through the frame, my advice would be
to re-route it. My '68 G.T. had the frame rusted badly from the inside,
due to water following the cable through the grommet. I installed an LB
and a short length of 3/4" EMT under the trailer and ran the new cable
through that.
