The stainless steel screws were included because they are the preferred
attaching hardware. Olympic, or any rivet works best in a very rigid
application such as a skin joint. Screws can handle the twisting and tugging of
using your rockguard better.
Recommend you use a strip of double stick tape on the top rail before you mount
it. It help hold the rockguard in place during installation and adds another
seal for the screw holes. Finish the top rail installation off with a seal of
Gutter Seal or the like along the top edge.
The holddown bracket mount on the bottom of the rockguard can be done in one of
two ways. Either double rivet it at the bottom edge or put a 90 degree bend in
the bracket at the back half so it will act as a lip to keep the bracket from
rotating as only one rivet will do. Be sure you mount the rubber T handles with
the nub toward the skin. This will minimize the skin contact.
Mequires has a Plastic refinisher (scratch filler) that will keep your
rockguard looking as good as the day you peel the paper off. It is a popular
product in the motorcycle crowd for cleaning off helmet faceguards.

Consider the price of replacing a window. Kinda like safety equipment discounts
on autos/trucks.
