         I've run conduit a few times- the best thing about it is that it 
makes it fairly easy to add wiring down the road, but I doubt that it is 
really necessary.
         A pricey alternative to romex is called "boat wire"- it is sized 
like romex, with three insulated wires sheathed in a jacket (black, white, 
green), but the individual wires are stranded, not solid. It also has a 
105°c / dry- 90°c wet rating.

         I *really* like brake wire- either 12 gauge (preferred) or 14 
gauge. It, like romex, has a sheath around the individual wires, plus it is 
rated at 105°c.
