[VAC] Re: '48 A/S for sale

There was a '48 Wee Wind listed by a private party on
Iowa Boys for a long time. The asking price
was $19,500; it finally sold, but maybe not for that
much. The '63 'Trotter listed there now for
$35.5K is nothing short of ridiculous. Iowa Boys
caters to the movie industry, so perhaps sellers
think they're going to sell to a celebrity. I have
seen a '57 A/S listed for $59K on the Internet, but it

had been elegantly remodeled with hand-painted murals
on the walls, brass fixtures, and Oriental
rugs on the floors. Perhaps it doesn't necessarily
apply in this case, but eBay in general has given
people a false impression of the worth and rarity of
their items. Many people who list items are not
"experts" on them, whereas many of the buyers are.
Thus people may see a rare item go for a high
price, and think their not-so-rare item will sell for
a similar price. I track certain categories on eBay
every day, and lots of items receive no bids at all,
or don't meet the reserve. As for the trailer in
question, it IS rare, however, based on the beginning
bid of $1,000, I never dreamed the reserve
would be so high. I will lay you odds that the seller
won't get what he's asking for it.
