[VAC] septic, part 2

Well, I removed the toilet. Tore up the platform that it sits on. I don't
know if I should be happy or not, but the tank is not where the leak is
coming from. (I wanted an excuse to replace it because the inlet and outlet
are offset, and the outlet hole has a raised ring around it which catches
paper and plugs things up...royally). Turns out that either the rubber
gasket seal that I installed this spring was leaking, or more likely, the
vent that I fashioned was the cause of the fowl leak. Two things surprised
me, the tank was made of fiberglass--I don't know why I was expecting a
plastic tank on a 1960? And that the wood platform just sat on top of the
tank and was mainly supported by the tank. This amazes me, that it could
adequately support the weight of the toilet and the person using it. But the
engineers knew what they were doing as it has lasted for 40 years and is
still ready to do its job.

Question, can one drill into fiberglass? I want to install a vent directly
into the top of the tank. I figure on using a garden hose for the vent as it
was already snaked through the wall and out the vent stack by some long
forgotten repair guy. If I do this, a connection would be easy to find but
does anyone have ideas on how to secure it to the tank and seal it? An
automotive body fiberglass repair kit? Silicone caulk?
