Re: [VAC] Polishing---Basics

Do you still have a coal furnace? What about a crank to start your car? My
dad used to say that the only way to get a good wax coat on a car was with
original simonize (carnuba) where you had to rub like hell. Well Times
Change. And consumers report said many other less labor intensive products
worked far far better. there are two steps involved in polishing
1.Remove surface oxidation and contamination.
2. Get the surface as smooth as possible.
as far as #1 this does not necessarily mean you must rely on the brute force
method of abrasives.
Sure the mechanics of polishing can not really change, but the possibility
that some steps might be eliminated is there.
Also As someone how has studied metalsmithing I was trained in the Tripoli-
rouge school. but as far as the different colors and gads, when it gets down
to the ultimate, wondrous luster. the choice of a 'post final' polish is as
much alchemy as science. try stuff and see if it works. A lot has to do with
your technique.
