Fwd: [VAC] Most Wanted/Rarest/ Fewest

Hey gang, the attached forward is an old post I found from last
December, listing a lot of models and what was in the VAC data base.
Since that time,we have discovered quite a few new models, and a few
quite rare ones. If this old post comes thru as an attachment, and you
are "afraid" of attachments, then don't open it. I thought some of the
newbies might be interested in some of he old models.
Recently we have discovered:

Cruisers, in 24ft 6 inches, 25 feet, and 36 feet.

Liners, in 33 ft, 30 ft and 29 ft, early fifties

1958 , 18 ft "Traveler"
1955, 22 ft "Panorama"
1955, 26 ft "Romany"
1956 , 16 ft "Caravel", Ohio made, and slightly different than the
Calif made Bubbles..

And others that I have never seen, like the "Falcon".

Bud Cooper also brought it to my attention that there is evidence to
suggest that the factory was closed in 1938 due to the depression, and
lack of "capital". Therefore, the thirties only consisted of these
models:
1936, 1937, and a few in 1938. One 1939 model was referenced in a past
newsletter, but we now feel that it was not an Airstream. The
strategic war materials order issued by the War Dept. in 1939, to cease
using aluminum sheet in civilian manufacturing is another reason no
Airstreams were built in 1939. The VAC and the list would appreciate
any input regarding old models, and newer models, as we try to piece the
history together. Perhaps next year we can have a re-registration, to
list all the multifple owners and to correct all the old mistakes.
Enjoy.

I recently had the opportunity to screen through the VAC membership
registry and roughly count different models and years of manufacture.
Unfortunately, the VAC registry, in most cases, only shows one vintage
trailer per member, and none for some friends. The registry also does
not show members with multiple units and it can not possibly keep up
with new acquisitions, and changes in ownership. Aside from those
shortcomings, the registry does provide a good data base of
year/model/serial number for statistical purposes. With a data base of
over 1200 members, and over 1100 units, here is a rough breakdown.
Remember, the early years, 30's and 40's, you can probably double the
numbers because of unregistered members units. Again, these are only
units owned by VAC members.

1930's............6.
1940's............21.
1950's............93.

Overlander (all years, 26'--27')........132.
Tradewind (all years 24'--25')..........108.
Safari (all years 22'-23')....................140.
Globetrotter (all years 22'-19'-20'-21')..107
Bambi I ( 61,62,63.--16')......................66
Bambi II ( 1964---17')...........................26
Caravel ( all years,18'-17'-18')...........101
Bubble ( 55, 56, 57---16')..................13
Pacer ( 58,59,60--17'-16')...................13
Flying Cloud ( 53 to 63--21'-22')........12
Cruisette (1951--15')..........................2
Wee Wind (1949--16')........................2
Caravanner (all years 23' 22' 25')........9
Wanderer (all years 18')......................5

I have not yet counted Ambassadors, Sovereigns , or Argosys. I did not
count the models from the 30's and some from the 40's, because the
records are so sketchy. Some of the 'Yachting models', or 'Windy
models' are as follows:

Clipper, Cutter, Zephyr, Seabreeze, and Whirlwind.

If anyone knows of more models, that I have not included, Please, feel
free to add your info. I also did not mention 'Custom' models.

This , of course, does not answer the question of 'Most sought after',
because, that is a personal choice. I think you will all formulate your
own opinions about demand and 'most rare'. The registry above, tells a
bigger story about those coaches still in circulation.
