[VAC] Water system check

Hi there everyone,
As some of you know we've been refurbishing our poor old Airstream for the
past month and we have finally reached the point where we are trying to get
all the mechanicals up and running. So today my poor husband got the sink
all re-hooked up (after installing a new counter) and filled the fresh
water tank to check for leaks and now we realize that the directions in our
assorted manuals are not really clear enough for novices like us. So, we
thought someone could tell us if we're on the right track or not.
First, when we turn on the pump or pressurize the system via a hand pump
water comes out of the drain valve under the water tank. Now, if the drain
valve is turned off it doesn't come out as fast, and when we stop adding
pressure or turn off the pump, the draining stops. So we thought we might
need to replace the washer in the drain spigot. (what do you think of
this?) Also, the place where you attach a hose from a city water system
shows a screw in plug in our manual pictures, but ours is gone, and we're
wondering if that is a plug to keep out dirt and stuff or to allow
pressurization of the system.
And one last question, the faucets in the bathroom appear to have seized
up (they were original equipment) after sitting for 3 years, and I wondered
if anyone has ever worked on these. We're not sure if the cylinders are
replaceable with modern parts from the plumbing store or if we'll need all
new faucets. (I'm a little concerned about the shower faucet.)
Thanks for all your assistance. I'm afraid some of these are kind of
basic, knuckleheaded questions to ask, but I'm sure you can lead us to that
elusive light at the end of the silver tunnel.
