[VAC] Buying a new (old) Airstream

Hi, my name is Gary Lewis and I'm in the process of shopping for and
purchasing my first Airstream in the Portland, Oregon area. I found a 1962
24' model that is in pretty good condition, I think. It has a straight body,
light birch cabinets, a new air conditioner, new tires and wheels (not
stock-- I'll want to replace them with rims and caps), new gas bottles, and
torsion bars for the hitch. What 'm not sure about is the wiring, since one
of the marker light lenses is missing and the light is rusted (no wire
visible), and the floor. The carpet has been taken up in about half of the
trailer, and the plywood is soft and delaminated near the door. The floor
seems to be solid most everywhere else except for a small area of plywood
behind the toilet. The trailer grew up in Arizona for about 37 years and was
recently brought to Oregon. The weatherstripping at the door is stiff,
cracked, and missing in places, so I think most of the water damage may have
occurred recently.

My questions: How hard is it to replace flooring? Is it a good idea to
install sheet vinyl, or is that a restoration no-no? Are original door seals
and weatherstripping available? How about cam-locks for the screen door--can
they be purchased? Last, but not least, is $3800 to $4000 appropriate for an
Airstream in this condition? I love it (and so does my daughter--my wife's
not sure), and would like to jump at it, but I'm a novice. I'd appreciate
any advice or information--Thank you. --Gary Lewis
