Re: [VAC] 2 weeks from P-Day

Here is my feeling about polishers etc.

If you are not going to buy a drum polisher, any old
polisher will do. My first one cost $47.00 at
Wal-mart, and I blew out the switch... My second one
is a Milwaukee - this sucker'll last forever -- BUT it
weighs about 11 pounds. cost=$189... it just doesn't
matter --

pads - I got cheapy ($3.79) short (1/2") pads at
Walmart for the "Pre-polish" process (oxidation
removal) and pricey ($10.00) string tie pads at a
equipment rental place for the final polish.

as far as the polish, Rolite is great - but like
anything - the polish goes with the personality right?
if some one wants to stand there with a wheel
spinning on a 24"x24" square for however long it takes
to make it perfect, then that is the right polish. I
don't have a whole lot of confidence that a compound
of any* sort can make a panel perfect although any* of
them will ease the process if you don't die of boredom
first... I'm finding personally that starting by hand
with polishing papers and then using a buffer to
polish to gloss with metal polish THEN using a Rolite
ap-300 equivalent to improve the resolution works for
me... the bottom line is if you are going from a 40
year unpolished panel, and you won't stop 'til it's
perfect? you'll be working on one panel for 8-12
hours.
