Re: [VAC] Bambi Refrigerator

Bob:

Keep in mind that the power to run the reefer is the same no matter what
the voltage is. Thus the actual watts required at 110 volts AC are the
same as the watts at 12 volts DC. Kinda like the difference in weight
of a pound of lead and a pound of feathers.

An inverter is, mostly, a VERY inefficient device. Usually in the range
of 60% or so. This means that runing your refrigerator on 12 VDC using
an inverter to convert to 110 VAC will require about 140% of the power
required to run on straight 12 volts or on straight 110 volts.

All this additional power plus the original requirement will be sucked
out of the battery so you would actually be better off just running the
reefer straight out of the battery in the first place if it can run on
12VDC. If not then you've no choice. Gas or bite the bullet and
provide the power.

Bottom line: There ain't no free rides.
