Re: [VAC] tow hook-up

Jacque,
No doubt the Ford is wired to today's standard, and the A/S probably
isn't. Get a new connector (and cable if necessary) and wire it to the
A/S.

Standard connector wiring schemes are shown on Champion Trailer's site
at http://www.championtrailers.com.

You'll no doubt have to trace out the wiring on the A/S, but that's no
big deal. Start with the large wires, probably White and Black; the
White is Ground, the Black is Hot (12VDC from the tow vehicle to the
trailer battery for on-the-road charging. After that, connect a 12 volt
battery temporarily, with the Negative (-) side grounded to the trailer
frame and the Positive (+) side going to an inline fuse (available at
your local autoparts store). Size of fuse should be at least 10 amps,
but is not all that important. Touch the other end of the inline fuse to
each wire in turn and look to see which lights come on. You'll have
Tail/Clearance, Right Turn/Stop, Left Turn/Stop, Backup, and Brakes. You
should get a small spark when you hit that brake wire, but won't see any
lights come on, you might hear a small 'click' from the wheels if you
have someone with their ear right next to it.

This might take you a whole hour to trace out and wire, depending on
whether you replace the pigtail also or not, and also depending on how
much beer you drink. It's a 2-beer job at most. :-)
