Re: [VAC] RE: Batteries

???

My browser tells me their AGM/GEL product specs page was updated just last
week, not in 1998. (See below). Maybe we weren't looking at the same page?

Anyway, if you're considering Trojan at all, you're probably leaning toward
wet vs. gel. Trojan is better known for their wet batteries. Speaking of
which...

For use in my trailer's 12v system, I'd rather have wet than gel. The main
drawbacks of wet are that they need to be vented, and contained against
possible spillage. If you need to put your batteries in an unvented
interior space, than gel is more desirable. I have an external battery box,
so I don't care. Wet batteries also require monitoring and maintenance of
the water level, but that's not a big deal to me.

On the other hand, (if you believe Trojan's FAQ), wet batteries are more
robust and efficient than gel batteries, especially the golf cart models,
which are designed to take many recharging cycles and heavy vibrations
during use. Of course, that's Trojan's first product line, so you might
want to get a second opinion from the manufacturer of Optima gel cells or an
independent third party. I bought the T-105's because at the time, I had
heard more good things about them than any AGM or gel cells, and because I
don't have to worry about gas or spillage, and I had room for them over my
A-frame. There are clones of the T-105 that cost a little less, but I
forgot who makes them.

Disclaimer: I receive no income from any company that produces any product
of any kind, especially batteries, including but not limited to Trojan,
Optima, and Interstate.

But I digress... ;>)
