Hi All
Just an update on the generator problem. While I was decarboning the generator today I discovered to my surprise it was running quite lean. Choking the carburetor heavily caused it to run much better. I suspect this lean mix is causing the exhaust manifold to get extra hot and may be what is causing the back firing problem.

Tom how about running this by your Onan tech to see if it is possible.

The mixture screw is hard to reach on my installation and I will have to fabricate an adjustment tool. I do not know why the Onan tech was unable to find and adjust this when I had it in to him. Even though I indicated I thought it was a fuel mixture problem.
I ran the generator with the choke 3/4 blocked on for quite a while today. The engine ran much better and did not backfire when I turned it off. So I hope I am on the right track.
Mike
