I have a 33ft SS Luxury Liner and need to repaint the gold on the
outside. Can anyone provide the brand and color of the correct paint? I'm
new to this site and have found it's contents very interesting. This is my
first inquiry. Thank you. ...Frank Rose, California

Dear SS List
Dull and streaked anodized aluminum can be cleaned and clear-coated to protect it. The
process involves cleaning the entire trailer with a scrub brush and "Comet." The clean
finish, after masking the non-aluminum parts, is washed with lacquer thinner. Then the
surface is coated with Johnson Wax's "Permacote" applied by spraying on a very thin coat,
maybe 5 mils thick. Permacote has an ultraviolet inhibitor, does not turn yellow, and is
lacquer based. This clear coat process was developed by Avion to solve the deteriorating
anodize finish problem customers were complaining about. The best results occur when the
clear coat is applied to new metal. However, I have done both and was quite please with
the results of both methods. New or old. The coat lasts about five years. The next
time the trailer is coated the scrubbing step is not required. There is a company,
specializing in Avions, that does this process. Here is their info:
Cayo Repair Service
