It seems my tank is not stainless: the badge on top reads "Glass Lined".
What in the heck does that mean? I've drained the tank three times and the
water still has a bit of an Iron orangish tinge. Do you all think I should
swap out to the plastic or keep flushing and hope this condition goes away?

By the way, I got the front sofa recovered in a really nice soft brown leather
( the '70s velvet was driving me crazy), and had the floor redone in a
beautiful vinyl floor covering. I'll post some pics when I get this beauty
done.

I have not had a stainless tank ever leak. I did have a glass lined tank
that leaked on a Streamline once. It was in an area where the water fill
connects from the top to the exterior of the trailer and the bouncing from
travel
caused stress on the weld. I have a stainless on my SS and will probably
never
need to change it. It is converted to demand.

"Glass lined" is a coating of porcelain enamel that is sprayed on the
inside of the steel tank while it is heated orange-red. The powdered
glass melts on the inside of the tank, providing a watertight coating.
This is the same process as is used in water heaters.
Unfortunately as the years go by tiny defects in the coating, especially
around fittings, permit corrosion to get under the porcelain, causing
rust. It's not as bad as in a water heater as only cold water is in the
tank, and in most of our RVs the tank is empty most of the time. So
instead of beginning to rust after 5 or so years like a water heater it
is 20 or more years before significant rusting takes place.
Once the tank begins rusting it will be only a few years until it rusts
through in a spot. It can't be stopped by any practical means as the
sealers that will work are not what you would want your drinking water
exposed to.
An anode rod as is used in water heaters would help, but I don't think
these fresh water tanks have one.

I guess your tank was not stainless steel. That said then it would
probabably behoove you to replace it with the fiberglass one. Looking
forward to seeing your pics. Carl Rodgers
