I had problems in my '83 with the plumbing between the shower and sink (but
probably too far over for your leak), and also had to replace my sprayer
faucet, it was leaking everywhere for sometime every time I flushed the
toilet (it wasn't spraying, just running down the side of the hose in a very
subversive manner!)

Oh no! Took my 78 SS for first camping trip after gettign all lights,
switches, etc. to work, and now I think I have a bad leak.

After falsely accusing my father's dog of peeing on a box in the rear
bathroom, we discoverd the floor to be very wet between the toilet and sink,
but not under either, and not under the vent??

Before tearing up carpet, taking off floor flange, does anyone have any
ideas?

Also, when pump on hot water spurted in kitchen a lot.

Jeff

P.S> I bought original Thin Light units to replace bad one (for $70 a pop).
Anywhere cheaper?

Thanks in advance to all.

Check the hot water heater which is in the closet for leaks around the
bottom
as this is common on an older one unless it has been replaced. Check the
toilet valve behind the toilet to see if it needs to be tightened and then
check
in the lavatory area for water under the drawers. The shower lines also
connect in the wall behind the lavatory. Another culprit would be the
sprayer that
is attached on the wall behind the toilet. These will sometimes leak. Note
that you should have a shut off valve on the floor near the back left for
this
line if it is at fault.

Wow, sounds all too familiar as we had the same problem just a few days ago! I
can hear the leak when the water is on coming from under the floor in front of
the sink. I haven't had the time to do anything yet and would like info (if
anyone has it) on the best way to repair such a leak. It appears that taking
the floor up would be the best way, any suggestions on that?

Thanks, Bill

Is your plumbing under the floor? On my '79 all the fresh water plumbing
is above the floor, except for the 2 drains and the incoming pipe just
behind the left rear wheel.

My '83 has plumbing on top of the floor all the way down the side, past the
toilet and across the rear wall. The portion along the rear wall is covered
with a piece of metal and screwed to the foor and wall. I believe I would
modify an older SS this way to keep from tearing up the floor unless it is already
damaged from water.

You may be right about your plumbing running under the floor. If I remember
correctly, the earlier Silver Streaks had heating duct work under the floor
with vents in the middle of the walk way in the bedroom. It this it true for
your trailer, the pipes were probably installed in the basement under the floor
along the route of the heat duct vents. If this is the case, I would either
pull the access panels off of the bottom to see the lines and repair or simply
splice into the existing lines and run the new plastic piping above the floor
in concealed areas. I had a 1970 Holiday Rambler at one time that this was
the case. I was able to connect the front pipes that came from the basement
area to the sink to the rear supply by feeding the newer tubing through the sub
floor from the outside. It was easier than I thought it would be. If your leak
is under the floor, this is about the only options I would know of.

Bill,

If you can only hear water when you turn on your sink faucet under the floor,
I would think you may have a leak under the faucet valve in the cabinet. If
this is the case, that water would be spraying out all the time under the
floor and more so when the faucet is off.

You may want to see if the drain lines are ok. If there is a damaged line,
it could be pouring in the underbelly. My sink drain line makes a turn under
the back twin bed and slopes downward along the fresh water tank until it
angles straight down through the floor into the gray water tank.

James,

I woke up yesterday morning and heard the hissing, listened for it around the
sink and shower. It was loudest just in front of the sink about 12 inches. No
water was running from the faucet or shower, but plenty leaking from the
bottom of the trailer outside! The bathroom floor was wet between the toilet
and sink. When I cut the water supply to the trailer and relieved the pressure
the noise stopped. Yep. I'm sure it is a supply line under the floor, unless I
missed something, and I don't think I did. Any suggestions on the best way to
access these lines for repair?

Thanks, Bill

Thanks James for this suggestion,

I will double check when I get time, I am a truck driver and on the road, for
the location of the lines and access in concealed areas to run new lines. I
was thinking of taking carpet and floor up. I guess more investigation is
called for. Will update on the list when I know more.

Bill

What year did you say your trailer is? 74? If so, you will probably have to
run new flex lines.
The area under the floor around the sink would be very difficult to get to.
I would probably re route the lines as the later models are under the beds
etc. There must be a split line under the floor. If the lines were running
above the floor, I would say trace them as they go under my sink and turn toward
the back over the wheel well housing (wood) and follow along toward the back.
This can be easily seen if I pull the back twin bed off and look under the
cabinet. A repair on a newer one would be much easier. If yours is a 74, it is
probably routed under the floor as you said and along the heat ducts. This
changed in the mid 70's and the ducting as well as the pipes were all above floor
level. Only the drain pipes went below and only when they dropped into a
tank. I have copper throughout but I know from my repair guy that does my plumbing
that he can cut these lines and insert a fitting and extension to re join the
water line. If accessible, this is an easy job!

I also noted that you said "12 inches" in front of the sink. Well, this
would confirm my suspicion that the lines probably route around the middle under
the floor along with the heat ducts assuming you have a 1974 model . You may
want to leave the water off since that spray is probably hitting the bottom of
the floor. You do not want to damage the sub floor until repairs are made. I
am not sure that I would want to cut through the floor to repair these. If
there is one, there could be more if it had a freeze. You would be better off
cutting the lines under the sink and attaching new ones that go under the bed
and to the rear and also the same for the bath. I would do this if this issue
ever occured.

Carl,

Thank you for that info. I am coming to the realization that this could be the
case and need to investigate it before taking up the floor. It sure would be
easier! When I get time I will look closer at this and try to find the exact
source of the leak.
