Hello Dave,

My wife and I own a 1974 32 ft. Continental Supreme and are very happy with
it. I have tried to locate the old style latches for the closets and have not
found any available. I asked about the LP gauges on the list and got no
response...our valves/tanks had been replaced and so unfortunately the gauges
inside do not work. I would definitely upgrade to the approved valves as
safety should be the primary concern. I believe there are other systems
available for level detection. There are numerous on line suppliers of R.V.
parts and accessories. I use www.google.com and www.dogpile.com for searching
and have had good results.
Most times a local R.V. supplier is best as they can offer suggestions and
handle details well, sometimes a comparison is needed and that is hard to do
on line.

Hope this info helps, if I can be of further assistance feel free to email me
direct at 5150-n-flipper@xxxxxxxxxx.com

  Hello Dave,

I'm the new owner of a '67 Silver Streak Safari 20 ft. It's in great
shape
and is very clean and well kept. You're right, they're very well made.
Mine has the skin all around and under it. My friend tells me that it
would float! Almost anyway. :o) I don't know much about them, and
couldn't really find much either. Funny, I came to Oregon from So. Calif.
and had family in El Monte where Silver Streaks were made. Apparently
they
are no longer in business, but really I don't know much about them. If
you
have info., I'd appreciate knowing more about them. I have the info re:
who owned mine, etc., but nothing really about the Brand.

Hope to learn more about my S. Streak before too much more time passes.
  marian

I've searched for OPD valves with level gages, no success.
All I've found are tanks equipped with separate gages. They were outside
read only, no electrical connections.
You will go to OPD's as it is harder and harder to find suppliers that
will fill non-OPD valve equipped upright tanks under 45#.
The only way to keep the tanks original and usable is to fill them yourself
from an OPD equipped tank that you take to get filled. A lot of trouble and
not so practical on a trip.
The only thing the Overfill Protection Device does is prevent filling the
tank over 80% of volumetric capacity. There is a float inside that closes
the filler passage from the valve when the tank is 80% full. If a tank is
overfilled and then while overfilled left out in the sun is that the safety
valve will bow off the excess. Very dangerous on a barbecue grill with the LP
tank right under the grill but not much on a travel trailer out of doors.
More alarming than dangerous when that loud hiss goes off.
No competent service station attendant will overfill a tank anyway.
