Hi,

I am Ros and live in Houston. We have a '1979, 34 foot Silver Streak Eleganti.
We have done much to this trailer and really love it.

I have a problem with the front step inasmuch as it seems that the forward
looking section of the step is loose from the frame. Actually, I think
that one of the supports for the step is cracked and needs 2 seconds worth
of welding. I need to know what and where I can get the material that is
used to cover the 4' sections of aluminum sheet. This strip is aluminum,
not shiny or anodized, about one inch wide, is dimpled and runs from the
rub-rail that contains the vinyl trim to the bottom. In other words this
strip only comes up to the rub-rail from the bottom. I need to buy some
of this stuff as I am going to remove a portion of it so that I can fix the
step support.

Also, I want install a 5 kw. generator that I already have and am curious
as to where others have installed theirs. Someone suggested to mount it on
the A-frame of the trailer hitch and that would be perfect but I hate to
add more weight to the tongue as I already have 2 heavy 6 volt batteries up
there along with two 40 pound propane tanks.

I would be interested in knowing who is left on here and what units they have.

Thanks again, Tom, for the list.

James,

I notice that you give the exact lenght of 33.5 feet and mine is, too.

Have you found many occasions where you wish that your trailer were shorter?

You said that you have owned and restored Silver Streak, as well but I
think you meant something else.

I think you're better off putting that 5KVA generator forward as far as
possible than putting it
aft of the axles because at least 10 % of your trailer weight should be on
the hitch
and preferable 15 to 20%. Makes for much better towing. Carl Rodgers

Hi!
Our names are Bruce and Mary Stiltjes

We are from Northeast Wisconsin, about 40 miles from Green Bay.
We stumbled into silver streak ownership this past spring.
We have a 1958 Jet. It's 19 feet.

Everything was original, and through a lot of trial and error, we
discovered everything worked.

It hadn't been cleaned since 1958, and had some rotten floor around the
door, which got patched and covered.

My husband became a polishing expert, which also resulted in a few home
runs on the softball field this summer!!

We've kept the 50's look with the painting, flooring and upholstery, kind
of a 50's diner look. We finished our labor of love in a little over 3
months.

Here are some before and after
http://homepage.mac.com/mstiltjes/PhotoAlbum20.html

Mean while, we've been taking it to some local campgrounds, seems like we
always find ourselves taking the route that will take us past Main Street
windows, we like to see our selves pulling the little Jet. :)

Hi Mary and Bruce,

I really enjoyed looking at your pictures at the url below.

http://homepage.mac.com/mstiltjes/PhotoAlbum20.html

You really did a nice job in making that little jewel gleam. Both the
interior and exterior look great.

I wish that our 33.5 footer was polished like that but I can't begin to
imagine how long it would take to polish off all of the anodizing nor, how
long it would last before needing it again. If I were younger.......

I noticed an older refrigerator in your S.S. Is that a Servel or is it
propane fired?

Hi Carl,

Well, that seems the best place for it. I will have to build a box
underneath the battery box. This addition will probably add 200 pounds to
the tongue weight. I don't have any valid, measured weights on this rig so
I will have to get it weighed soon.

In putting the generator below the batter box and frame, I hope I don't run
into any situations where it may drag.

Thanks for the input.

Hi Ros,
I would have to go out into the back yard to find the brand name, I can
e-mail that tomorrow.

It works on electricity, Bruce can get it to look like it's running on
propane, but all it does is get warmer!!

We have to plug it in about 4 days for it to stay cold, but then it works
great. We were thinking about replacing it with a more efficient new one,
but it would break our hearts to plunk something new in there

Here is a web site with some cool info, it is how we got it running in the
first place.

Okay, Mary,

Don't bother with the fridge's name. I was just curious if it worked from
propane.

How long did it take your husband to polish out the unit? I assume that
unit was anodized but not certain.

Has anyone on this list polished a larger unit with anodization out to
mirror finish and if so, how long did the finish last before needing it again?

Thanks

Ros

Ros,

We should have kept track of the hours. He went through 7 economy size
"mothers chrome cream"
It took him less than 3 months, but he was pretty dedicated. He had 5
towels, when they were black, he would quit for the day.

And no it wasn't anodized
