Here is where i'm currently at: five different tire shops in this area (San Diego) have all checked the trailer out. all there efforts reveal no - i repeat no - trailer tire for a 15 inch rim that has an outside diameter of 26 inches, which is the maximum that my wheel opening will take. And every tire place cautioned me against ever - i repeat - ever using car tires (which i have witnessed several restorers using in order to solve my problem) for a trailer of this type. So i guess my best solution is to find a spare tire rim at 14.5 and carry one full mounted spare plus another unmounted tire so i don't get stranded somewhere waiting for a ship-in of a 14.5 tire. Again i appreciate your comments and support and home to return to favor sometime. best regards, jim -) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Jul 2005 12:20:06 -0700 (PDT) From: david bailey <dbwentfishin@xxxxxxxxxx.com> Subject: Re: [SilverStreak] Re: rim/tire assistance needed I recently had new rims and tires mounted on my newly aquired 23 ft 1970 sabre. I don't recalll the specifics of the sizes and I am at work so I can't go out and have a look right now, but if you call Sue at "Iowa Boys" on Lankershim blvd in North Hollywood she can either advise you or give you the # for the place that she uses all the time. I think it is Discount Tire and they did a great job for me. Most dealers in the southern ca area can order 14.5 tires but rarely do they keep them in stock. That's why i think i'll go with the mounted spare plus an unmounted tire. i'll let you know when i get to the bottom line and the total cost for this part of my efforts to get my 1958 Silver Streak Clipper roadworthy. and again my thanks go to you, jim -) ------------------------------ End of Silver Streak Digest V1 #187 *********************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------- When replying to a message, please delete all unnecessary Digest text To unsubscribe or change to an e-mail format, please go to http://www.tompatterson.com/Silverstreak/List/listoffice.html
