However, I have a different problem regarding the name plate. We have both front and back name plates (for our 1964 Sabre) and they are in good enough shape to keep using, but they are cracked in a couple of places and the red paint is almost completely gone. The rubbery-plastic material has sun damage and is rough. Does anyone have any suggestions for whether I should try to glue the pieces back together and, if so, with what? And does anyone have thoughts on what type of paint will best adhere to this surface and be very long wearing? Finally, does anyone think that putting some type of clear coating over the whole thing would be a good idea; and, if so, any suggestions as to what might work and not turn yellow or damage the already fragile plastic? Thanks! I'd appreciate any thoughts on this. I used contact cement. Sprayed painted a white rustoleum base and hand painted with red krylon on letters (needed multiple coats). Clearcoated with Krylon spray and filled in any stress cracks after mounting with crazy glue. Used very small thin neoprene washers between plastic nameplate and trailer body to reduce flex, heat transfer and vibration, and stainless screws. Probably overkill, but time will tell. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amy Craddock" <laze@xxxxxxxxxx.net> To: <sslist@xxxxxxxxxx.com> Sent: Thursday, July 07, 2005 4:49 PM Subject: [SilverStreak] name plates > Hello all, > A while back there was a discussion on this list from folks with missing > name plates needing replacements and I remember people had some good > suggestions. They did however still have specks of the original "Corvette Red" and "T-Bird Turquois". I was stumped but started with the Ford dealer looking for 1950s touch up paint. They referred me to a specialty paint shop. I bought a very small can of "Sign Painters' 1-SHOT Paint Lettering Enamel" 104-L BRIGHT RED and 149-L Aqua. An absolute perfect match with paint that is made for the harshest of outside weather. Its been on over a year so far and still looks like i just painted them. Hope that this helps -& i have enough paint for 40 more trailer signs..... jim -) ------------------------------ End of Silver Streak Digest V1 #182 *********************************** ----------------------------------------------------------------- When replying to a message, please delete all unnecessary Digest text To unsubscribe or change to an e-mail format, please go to http://www.tompatterson.com/Silverstreak/List/listoffice.html
