Conventional fluorescents use about 1/4 the power for the same light.

Now that LED's are coming down in price and are available in more an more 
forms it should soon be practical to light your RV with them for even greater 
power saving for the amount of light you get.

I agree...Living in Colorado is the same way.  When you get up in the  high 
country away from the city, tranquility comes from remote areas.  I  use 
propane for the refrigerator and all of my interior lights are flourescent.  I 
believe they use about 1/3 of the battery power.  I also use a catalytic  heater 
that is piped into the gas system.  This keeps the trailer nice a  warm on the 
coolest of mountain mornings in the summer. As a matter of fact, my  RV 
mechanic friend says that 12 volt refrigerators cause lots of problems  including 
draining the battery quite fast.  
Using solar panels helps keep the battery charged while remote camping too,  
especially when you are in direct sun.
