Subject: [SilverStreak] New to the List

Dear Group Members:

We are Mark & Shelly & Samuel Kelly from Vancouver, Washington.

We just purchased a 1978 Continental Supreme Luxury liner 33 1/2 feet.

We have enjoyed the message boards on the tompatterson sight but notice they
aren't used much so I am joining the e-mail forum and introducing us.

Everything works and is original. The fridge was replaced with a new 120
volt home still looks and works great but no dry camping ability or towing
cooling. I may need to upgrade to the correct one.

So, here are my quick questions
    1) FRIDGE: Looks like Nordic 741.2 or (3-if I want three way) or the
Dometic 2820 am I correct? Best Prices? Recommendations? It had the Dometic
RM100 originally. Dometic is correct size. Nordic is slightly smaller and
American made.
    2) CLEAN EXTERIOR: Is the correct way to clean (semi-shine) the exterior
still the WD-40 and Transmission fluid? Anything I need to be careful not to
do or do?
    3) GOLD PANELS: Since mine is an early 1978 I have the faded gold
panels. Can they still be painted with the Ace "Gold Plate" or Krylon?
    4) TIRES: I need to get some recommendations? Looks like 700x15 in 8 ply
bias are best. Correct?
    5) INSIDE PAINT AND CLEAN: The inside has already been painted and since
it was originally the 70's dark trim is that actual wood or more of a
painted wood so I shouldn't try to strip the new to find the old? I
actually prefer the lighter colors (my wife does so that's what counts.) She
is wanting to do a retro interior and plans on painting. here is some musty
smell from sitting closed up but I noticed after a few hours that is
clearing but since I am taking up the floor covering is it ok to paint the
floor and other unpainted areas (nooks and crannies) with Kilz?
    6) TRUNK DOOR: The trunk door has separated. Looks like water got in it
and froze. The aluminum pieces are fine but the inside wood is rotten. The
frame is riveted any experience on replacing the inside piece?
    7) STOVE EXHAUST: The wire mess screen is missing. Is this just a
standard one?
    8) VACUUM BAGS: I haven't begun a search for them and found the part
number in the manual but any quick knowledge here?

Thanks
Mark

To answer a few of your questions....
Measuring the dimensions of your fridge and trying to buy new (such as
Camping World) or used will be the best bet. The original fridge was a 3
way.
Outside use only the WD40 after a good wash with a mild citrus based
cleaner. Tranny oil can eat away painted surfaces, WD40 should be enough.
I would not paint the gold myself...... Overspray is a real concern as is
masking surrounding surfaces, fading comes with age.....
Unfortunately someone painted, bad news but if the finish is acceptable do
not compound with more paint...
Regarding tires, get all new same brand at size Trailer tires and get
bearings repacked and seals replaced as needed - very important.
The rest are minor concerns, remove the trunk, go to a cabinet shop, see if
a new wood core can be put in of cdx plywood if the wood core is rotted. The
rest should be just common sense repairs..
Good luck!

I have tried to post to the site at vintage vacations and for some reason it
won't let me now. I used to respond to topics there but can't any longer.
Can anyone help? Have I been blocked for some reason?
