Re: [SilverStreak] Items Re: [SilverStreak] Items Re: [SilverStreak] Items ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 22 Feb 2005 07:19:21 -0600 From: "Tom Patterson" <pattersontom@xxxxxxxxxx.net> Subject: [SilverStreak] Silver Streaks... Here is the latest from Ben Harper on his plans for the inherited Silver Streak inventory. - -Tom __________________________________ Thanks to everyone who has responded to my request for help / ideas on how to move the inventory I have inherited. I have received many, many suggestions of many different kinds from many different sources. All of the suggestions have been helpful and I am sure will all ultimately lead me to a final decision on how to best manage this process. I would like to let everyone know that at this time, and to many of your wishes, I will not be selling the inventory to a sole purchaser. Almost everyone expressed concern about what would ultimately happen to the inventory and what the final cost might be. So I decide that I will come up with a means to sell the invntory at a individual level with quantity limits on each type of item per purchaser. I am not sure exactly how I will set this up, but plan on having it sorted out with in the next 10 - 14 days. At which time I will notify Tom Patterson (email / message board) of the process and the Web Address for inventory viewing and purchasing. Some items are going to be held in reserve for Professional Restoration Groups, like Vintage Vacations, so that they can continue the ground up restorations with as much N.O.S. (New Old Stock) pieces. Items such as the pre-cut aluminum section panels, frame rails and other like items will be sorted out on a 50 / 50 basis. 50% for individual purchase, the other 50% for high quantity purchase. I hope that everyone will find this portion of the process fair for all. I know exactly what your husband is faced with. I have seen the market rise and fall many times in the last 5 plus years. There isn't any employee loyalty left in the large companies, they are all about profit and minimization during slow times. My company is a high-end Management / Operations / Technology consulting firm specifically focused on large initiative and operations management. We generally work with companies that have critical projects and timelines with budgets in the Millions / Billions of dollars. I have 300 employees and have never laid off any despite the market. I have a very simple approach to business and I am not greedy. I make sure that I take very good care of the people who work "with" me and they are well compensated. I hope that your husband finds something soon. I can only imagine that your "Honey Do" list and that he is now a captive worker. Just joking. If he wnats any recommendations on good companies looking for good project type people let me know. I have a ton of contacts and resources I would be more than happy to put to work on the topic. I hope that we will keep up the contact, I really do enjoy it. Shawn Carolyn <hown@xxxxxxxxxx.net> wrote: Yes my husband said that is all you have to do with the lighting is just what you said. I researched on the net and the very same company is still in business that manufactured the lights. You can buy ballast, bulbs, etc. We bought all new lights except for one or two which I may have to buy instead of getting the parts. They were much cheaper directly from the manufacturer than from the RV store. I think we saved $10 a light if I remember correctly. My husband has worked for KBR, Halliburton for 15 years. He was a Superintendent/Project Mgr for Highway Paving. They closed that divison several years ago and he went with another division on a project in Camaroon and then Chad Africa. After the project finished he was laid off, first time in 15 years! But then they sent him to Pensacola to work on the naval base after the hurricane tore it up. That part is complete so laid off again. This is sort of like it was way back early in our marriage. We were talking today that if he tries and stay with them looks like each time a project is finished now it will be layoff, nothing is the same as it was with KBR. He is looking possibly at Dijbouti, Nigeria, maybe Angola for other projects. He only has about 7 years to retire, not sure if he is going to try and hang in a few more years or what. Right now he is home and we are working on stuff here. I am an accountant, worked for construction companies in poject management jobs for about 10 years, haven't worked in about 6. Had a elderly sick mom and we have a mentally challenged daughter who also got very sick so had to quit. But everything is fine. What type of jobs do you deal with? If we can help will be glad to. We have had several RV's through the years. - --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! We think he still has opportunities to go on more projects with KBR, I do not want him to go to Iraq, actually as he says he needs about 6 months off, but probably won't happen. We also have a few rental properties that I and a tenant take care of. Our tenant is a consultant for Reliant in Houston and they have not used his services much in the last two years. The job situation is changing for everyone. My husband was indeed fortunate, he was one of the few "saved" from the closed division and offered other employment when this all happened about 4 years ago. I'm not concerned about him finding another position, but the benefits I imagine will be a problem. He has many friends that have gone to work for other companies and had to quit because of unaffordable health insurance premiums or no insurance. I'm sure I am not telling you a thing you do not already know. I bought the Silver Streak as we thought he was going to go on a project and he was going to live in it but he ended up in Florida instead. We have had several RV's through the years he has lived in away from home. Never had time for he and I to vacation in any of them, now isn't that something! He teases me about falling in love with it and I must admit I did. If we don't use it we will rent it, they seem to be very well built and durable. My honey do list is extensive! Hubby likes doing everything himself, well we both do actually, such a feeling of accomplishment. I really hope he can stay home for awhile, it will be so nice. Just an aside, we will be married 37 years in March, I'm very proud of that accomplishment. You have a great day!!
