Re: jacking of dual axle trailers to change a tire - i have several such
trailers to include a horse trailer. i built a ramp (you can buy one) to pull the
trailer up on which puts the total trailer weight one a single wheel while
allowing the other wheel to be up off the ground. I've changed tires using this
ramp without unloading horses so it works and saves time, trouble, etc. I
assume (which often spells trouble) that this will work for my Silver Streak
also although i have the ramp but have never used it for this trailer. This
system also allows the off-two tires to remain on the ground and the trailer to
remain hitched up for safety purposes. Anyone else using this system? thanks
much and be safe! jim -)

Thanks for the input. I don't suppose anybody lucky enough to have a manual for
a similar model might be willing to scan (even a digital picture would probably
do the trick) in the page on jacking and sending my way? I've never jacked up
anything that large -- so I'm not sure what similar to a truck really means.

Niave, I know.

Also -- on another topic, my day job includes writing and desktop publishing. I've
been thinking of putting together a Silver Streak newsletter in PDF format, basically,
a way of documenting what I learn about these great trailers into an easy to read
format. Be a good way to kill time on my 1.5 hour train commute. Would that be of
interest to anyone?

I'll probably produce it for myself, anyway, just for fun -- but I'd be happy to put
folks on a distribution list if you're at all interested. Also, it would be great
if folks would like to contribute articles and photos from your adventures! So far,
my adventures consist of admiring my beautiful Sabre as it sits slightly off balance
in my driveway and imagining the fun we'll have!!!

When we greased the wheel bearings that is what my husband did. Just but
the jack on the frame.

In the manual it showed jacking up the trailer in between the dual axles.
Hubby did that and put in new wheel bearings. Now he is finding he needs 2
new magnets and can't find them. Anyone know a source. He found all kinds
but these are the old round Kelsey Hayes ones with a red wire. If he can't
find them he will have to change out the axles. Anyone have any or know a
source for them??

You can just change out the brake backing plate and can get them complete
with shoes, magnets, springs - the ENTIRE works for around 35 bucks apiece.

I don't have time right now but remind me to look for the address of where
to get them.
The only gotcha is that you have to drill new holes in the new plates but
that is easy by using the old ones as templates.

Also, one should NOT try to use the leveling pads to jack up the trailer...
that will cause damage.

This is what hubby told me, I don't understand any of this so hope I got it
right.

He said the backing plate is offset on the old ones, it's not on the new
ones. And without changing the flange the brake drum bottoms out before
seating. Hope this makes sense.

> Thanks for the input. I don't suppose anybody lucky enough to have a
manual for a similar model might be willing to scan (even a digital picture
would probably do the trick) in the page on jacking and sending my way? I've
never jacked up anything that large -- so I'm not sure what similar to a
truck really means.

publishing. I've been thinking of putting together a Silver Streak
newsletter in PDF format, basically, a way of documenting what I learn about
these great trailers into an easy to read format. Be a good way to kill
time on my 1.5 hour train commute. Would that be of interest to anyone?

happy to put folks on a distribution list if you're at all interested.
Also, it would be great if folks would like to contribute articles and
photos from your adventures! So far, my adventures consist of admiring my
beautiful Sabre as it sits slightly off balance in my driveway and imagining
the fun we'll have!!!
