Description
Vehicle Description

This is a RARE AND HARD TO FIND TRAILER. It is a 1948 CURTIS WRIGHT 22 FEET LONG. Trailer Identification - To the rear of the entrance door, there is a metal plate attached which says the following: Curtis Wright Industries, Model 5, Serial Number 8184, Los Angeles, CA. Had to list this under Airstream because there is no category for Curtis Wright. Curtis Wright is considered the fore runner of the Airstream. The late 1940's were lightweight trailers utilizing a single pipe-frame support down the center of the undercarriage, which was also the tongue hitch. The body shape followed the deco looking aerodynamic style of the '30's & '40's, pointed ends front and back with a large oval window in the ends. Interior paint was either a pastel "tender green" or desert sand. Windows were lever operated, and the door included the unique for time door within a door screen door. This one has the green interior. There is one taillight/stop light in the back - smack in the center as allowed on trailers back then. I inherited this trailer from my father-in-law who lived in Nevada. It was stored for many years in his backyard. He intended to restore it himself but never got around to doing it since he is 88 years old. It was his mother's trailer. The pictures show it's condition, on the exterior. Some of the plexiglass windows are broken and there are a few repairable small holes in the skin covering. It has new tires and rims, (I bought them to transport it to my home.) and the wheel bearings were greased for towing it to Utah. It is in tow-able condition, how-ever if it was to be moved a long distance, I would put it on a trailer or some other moving equipment, I don't know the condition of the brakes or any of the rest of the trailer. It is a rare find for those wanting this style trailer for restoring. The interior appears to be original, but I am not sure, since most of these trailers of that era were custom made to suit the buyers. I have no knowledge of the working condition of the appliances which entail, Day-Night wall heater, and a three burner stove with a oven. There is one sink and a old time standard ice box. The kitchen area has built in galvanized metal cabinets. and counter area. The entrance door is put on with temporary bolts and the latch and handle are in bad condition. It has two wooden twin bed frames laying in the rear area. This trailer is for a restoration project, and is being sold in as-is condition. The title is current with Utah tags.
