[SilverStreak] Sherylyn's oven pilot too slow and low

Sherylyn,
I too need the Reese cover exactly as you describe and seems to me somewhere
I saw replacements. Might have been on the VAL.

The orifice tube and pilot light assembly gets fine rusties and simply needs
all of it's designed flow. Same thing applies for the burner pilot, and it's
flame adjuster, siphon tubes, and little burner orifices. There is nothing
really needing replacement, just cleaning about every 10 years.

Be careful with carb cleaner as it burns eyes, hands, and removes any paint
it contacts, rather instantly. Will damage plastics too. Sometimes if you
can tape a portion of your vacuum attachment so as to form really good
little suction area and while vac as close as possible and tapping the
component, it will tend to clear the little fines in the pilot tube. Good
blast with cheapy carb cleaner (less than $2 per can at AutoZone) will
sometimes help and then vac the area. The carb cleaner says extremely
flammable but I have never gotten it to do anything in that department.
Fumes can be irritating but quickly dissipate. Fumes won't harm
surroundings, but might bother some folks. Don't waste money on the
expensive cleaners.

Worst case, carefully remove (rusty screws will need oil soaking) and clean
the pilot assembly with an acetylene torch tip cleaner. Those are really
cheap and often available at Wal-Mart. The tip cleaner will look like a
little fold-open tin with multiples of little wire sizes of little wires.
Each has a ruff-ribbed shank for cleaning round orifice openings like a
file. Find the size that fits by starting small and go to biggest that can
be used. Any welding shop has buckets of them and might just give you one
since they are sometimes an advertising tool like pens.

Be sure to note how the pilot and assembly is presently affixed. It matters
greatly how much it heats the little thermostat sensor. Just put your camera
on flash, stick it in there and take a pic. It could help in reassembly
later.

Hope any of this helps you. All same applies to LP fridges and clearing that
little flame tip orifice.
