Ralph, I would be interested in your old set of broken take-offs. Between Brandon Sheehan in Lorenzo, Thor Fabor in Huntington Beach and myself, we are determined to make these out of preferably stainless or aluminum stock. I have the aluminum round pipe to make the hinge pins and can get the flat stock. I weld, but have never set up my short arc for aluminum or stainless. We prefer the stainless but am worried about ability to polish out the discoloration after welding on the pipe stock. Will just have to trial and error. The concept is to take flat stock, exactly cut to shape including the attachment holes, brake bend exact, weld on full length pipe stock to all to keep alignment, then after weld notch to match the pipe stock for a solid no-fold hinge barrel and slide brass or stainless bar stock for the pins. I may use different fab shops for shearing, bending, and if I can't do the welding, then a shop for that. The end result hinge will be absent the inlaid pattern which to my mind is not worth the effort, but would result in a high polish smooth face which I personally would prefer. An old set would provide a pattern, eliminate my having to find a way to keep my doors attached if I were to remove a hinge. Between two sets perhaps the remnants could be combined to get all the exact dimensions. I would be happy to reimburse the shipping expense. -Eddie- Houston, TX
