Hi Rachael:

First and foremost rule of electrical work is DISCONNECT THE POWER SOURCE BEFORE YOU WORK... In the case of the trailer, disconnect EVERYTHING. This means the battery leads as well as shore power be certain the whole circuit is "cold". The other major thing is that when fooling with any kind of battery, use safety glasses... your eyes cannot be replaced if you get battery juice in them by accident.

Otherwise, read some basic books, and if in doubt....get an electrician or someone familiar with doing AC and DC wiring. It will save a lot of grief until you get comfortable with the conventions used by electricians.

Big suggestion: Get a GFI master circuit breaker for the AC input leg. That can save a life if there is a faulty ground at a campground...which has been known to happen.

Find the local Ham radio club... take a license class.... that will teach you electronics and electrical safety in easy steps, and is a lot of fun, plus the radios you will be able to use are a lot nicer than CB any day.

Doug.
