Something definitely wrong there, there are supposed to be p-traps in all the
gray water drain lines. Of course, if one of the p-traps was dry, the smell
might come through. It's not only the smell, there's a safety issue, sewer
gases are toxic.

Essential IMO. But also easy. You will run through half a dozen or more fills
of the gray water tank before you need to dump the black water
