I liked the female counter part bit, etc, but I expect they are for attaching an add a room. In this case you would find the "male" parts running (?) down from the corners of the awning and probably some near the banana (bottom of the trailer) from which a skirt (which has female parts connected to it !!) is attached. I am installing such an add a room to my 1976 31 footer - it should be excellent to keep out mosquitos, etc.
