Howdy Charlie,

You called?????

Yep - the Polishing Techniques we use on Airstream WILL work on anodized metals. Anodizing - like a clear coat - HAS to be stripped off. The difference after stripping the 2 is that - you will NOT find Filiform Corrosion under the Anodizing. The Anodizing does in fact ACTUALLY protect the metal. And because of the protection the anodizing has afforded the aluminum - it polishes OUT Beautifully! MY recommendation for a trailer that has been anodized - Strip the anodizing - polish it - and apply the Conversion coating! Have stripped anodizing - polished & applied Conversion coating - hundreds of times in Aviation! Anodizing - leading edges, horizontals & verticals was/and is still in some places, very big in Aviation. Most are now wanting the anodizing replaced with Conversion coatings.

The Conversion coating we will start applying to Airstreams in 1999, IS in the Anodized Family (I'll be offering it in either a, 'Clear' or in a 'Gold' tint.) Difference between the two - Conversion coatings will only reduce the finished Polishing resolution a max. of 5-10% - where anodizing reduces it 99%. And if the skin was not PRE-polished BEFORE it was anodized - then there is -0- resolution.

The other MAJOR difference is that 'traditional' anodize, stains easily. Conversion coating will NOT STAIN.

Later all,
Jim
