Hi Carl,
It is an option to use synthetic oil in a diesel engine, but not an older
one if you have been using ordinary oil form the beginning....engine wear
will have taken place, and as the new synthetics have smaller molecules, it
will start to use oil as the smaller molecules wil;l get through gaps that
the larger molecules would plug.
I don't think ther is a gread deal of difference between the different
manufacturers of synthetics.
Don't know about transmissions tho, have to wait until my engineer comes home.
