OH! If they are the "only two ways to safely tow a trailer", then there
are 100,000 (or so) of us who have other systems who are UNSAFE and the
companies who make those hitches should not be allowed to sell them???

I give you they are probably safer. Some of my friends with Hensley
Hitches think they are wonderful (except when initially learning how to
hitch up and if the tow vehicle and trailer are not reasonably level
with each other). At least one other who had a Reese system before
buying the HH told me he did not find a significant difference. By the
way in Canada they sell for about $4,000 Canadian.
