Rob,

I wouldn't anticipate any problems using the 1000 lb bars except possibly an uncomfortably stiff ride.
I move all sizes of trailers using the heavy bars and have encountered no problems. Certainly worth a try before investing in a new hitch. You also may find the loaded trailer has more tongue weight than you would expect.

My 21 ft Globetrotter is right at 800 lbs.
