I think mine cost less than $10 (it was a long time ago) and it will reveal either a "hot ground" or a "hot neutral" condition, and also if the ground and neutral have been reversed. (then you get only one green light instead of two). I test every outlet with it before plugging anything in. My Argosy coach also
has the polarity indicator light Rich mentions but I have not actually plugged into any reverse-polarity outlet so have not seen it in operation.
