I tend to hold the view that the internal regulators probably suffer from neglect and fail because of it. I use compressed air to blow out the entire water system of my '70 (less tank and pump, of course) for the winter and the regulator still functions as intended.

That said, I tell you that I also use a hose-end regulator that I got at a garage sale.

The internal pressure regulator on my 1978 Argosy motor home still functions as intended. I also use a hose-end regulator (the Marshall Brass one you can buy for a few bucks in any RV store) but I attach it directly to the supply tap, and then the hose to the regulator. This after seeing more than one hose blown up to sausage proportions by water overpressure. City water supplies may often deliver up to 120 psi and neither the hoses nor your camper's internal plumbing are designed to deal with more than 40 psi. So use the in-line regulator between the tap and the hose, and save hoses.

You will leave it behind, inadvertently, from time to time, so carry a spare. Still cheaper than buying a new hose.
