Hunter,

I tend not to do anything to the car or trailer, (which might be too mechanical), just prior to a trip. I don't like to upset the applecart if they are acting ok. I had the trailer into the shop a few years ago for lots of little checks, etc., seems they went on coffee break and were side-tracked to another job and then forgot to tighten all the lugs on all the wheels. That cost them $1200 before they got done.

How'd you like to be on the way out West with that situation?

I would change the transmission fluid and filter 2-3 weeks ahead of your trip to make sure everything is ok. By running the car for 2-300 miles prior to the trip you know pretty well that it probably will act the same way.

I do this from the haunting experiences of the past and stories told to me by fellow campers, etc.

Tow vehicles in my opinion are operating in severe conditions, so I opt to change the fluid in the transmission at 24,000, and the engine oil at 3000. Synthetics seem to be getting the hyp and I use them because I hear ONLY good things about them.

Good Luck!

Rich Walbridge
