Try Simichrome.  It is a very fine/gentle metal polish made in Germany.  I have been using it since about 1960.

A VW/Porsche dealer will have it if nowone else.  Some auto part stores may carry it.  You can polish the scratches out of a watch crystal with it, so it is gentle.  Be sure to use only a dab is a little can go a long way.  It works even when it has turned black.  It also leaves a protective
coating against further tarnish.  Works on silver, brass and chrome, of course.
